B RAU N
I NTE RTEC
Daily Field Notes
Project No.: BL-11-01014A Report No.: 01
Location: Orono, MN Date: August 16, 2011
Personnel Classification Regular Hours Overtime Hours
Brad McCarter, PE Project Engineer 2.50 0.00
Scott Rodman Tech III 2.50 0.00
Areas and work performed this day:
Arrived on site to observe test pit excavations in the general area of the building pad to evaluate subgrade soils in
relation to soil borings from Geotechnical Evaluation performed by Braun Intertec. Test pits excavated to the south and ,
west of the building footprint encountered native glacial tills similar in nature to what was encountered in soil borings.
Test pits were then excavated in the area of the east wing of the building. Boring ST-104 drilled in this general area
encountered about 19 feet of organic, swamp depostied soils and was drilled about 30 feet off of the proposed building
corner due to interference form tfie pre-existing building on site. Test pits were excavated between the approximate
locaiton of ST-104 and the corner of the east wing of the proposed building. Organic soils were encountered within test
pits outside of the proposed building footprint; however, the test pit excavated along the1ooting line of the east wing
did not encounter these unstable soils. Therefore,we do not feel that soil corrections relative to organic, swamp
deposited soils will need to be performed in this area of the proposed building.
Prior to departure, samples of the on-site borrow were obtained for laboratory Proctor testing for use during
compaction testing.
Braun personnel will return to the site tomorrow once stripping and grubbing areeomplete to evaluate building pad
subgrade prior to placement of structural fill.
leather: Sunny / -78 degrees Performed By: Brad McCarter
Submitted To: Jim Beckwith (Kraus-Anderson) Date: August 16, 2011
• Providing engineering and environmental solutions since 1957
