Agenda Section: Approval Of Minutes Dir, Public Works/City Engineer 1. Purpose. The purpose of this item is to provide a record of the items discussed at the June 6th 2019 Park Commission Work Session. 2. Agenda. The work session had the following agenda. a. Park Winter Activities/ Ice Rinks b. Lurton Park Event c. Holiday Tree Lighting Event d. Big Island Panels 3. Points of Discussion. a. Park Winter Activities/ Ice Rinks. • Commission reviewed data from the Winter Activities Survey • Commission discussed no longer providing municipal ice rinks at parks based on cost effort and lake of existing infrastructure. • Direction to staff to prepare a language for a recommendation to council to discontinue providing ice rinks. Or to be "all in or all out" with respect to ice rinks b. Lurton Park Event • Goal of event is to establish a Friends of the Park Group. • Direction to staff to invite scouts who have worked in the park in the past to the event • Direction to staff to provide paver flyer and annual pass application for the event. • Staff to provide a water jug, a table and chairs for the event. • Preparation updates- • Paver contractor to have example pavers o Commission volunteers to perform beatification work at park o Special event permit is complete with the city. c. Holiday Tree Lighting Event • Commissioner Jan Berg provided a update on plans so far. • Event planned for December 7' at 6 PM at the Golf course. • Direction to staff to remove maple trees and have a pine tree planted off the west end of the parking lot. d.
