Box 66
Orono, MN 55356 Crystal Bay, MN 55323.0066
February 10, 2009
Notice of Public Hearing on Myrtlewood Neighborhood
and 850 and 875 Wayzata Boulevard West
Sanitary Sewer and Water Main Improvement Project
Dear Myrtlewood Neighborhood Residents,
Notice is hereby given that the Orono City Council will meet in the Council Chambers,
2780 Kelley Parkway, at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, February 23, 2009 to consider a sanitary
sewer and water main project for the Myrtlewood Neighborhood pursuant to Minn. Stat. 429.011
to 429.111. Such persons as desire to be heard with reference to the proposed improvement will
be heard at this meeting, or written comments may also be submitted to the City. This would be
an assessment project with all of the project costs assessed to the neighborhood residents.
The City received petitions from 9 of the 10 Myrtlewood property owners on April 3, 2008. A
summary of the petitions indicates that 9 property owners were in favor of the sewer project and
5 property owners were in favor of the water project.
A Feasibility Study has been completed for this project, and a pressure sanitary sewer system is
being proposed in which each property owner will be responsible for the installation,
maintenance, and operation of their own grinder pump station. Previous analysis showed that a
gravity sewer system to serve this neighborhood was not feasible. The feasibility study reflected
the inclusion of 10 properties on Myrtlewood Road. In addition, the Study looked at providing
municipal water to the 10 Myrtlewood properties. The total estimated project cost for the sanitary
sewer and water project is $185,000. The estimated cost per parcel for sanitary sewer is $8,500,
which includes the sewer line in the street and a service stub at the edge of the street Right of
Way. The estimated cost per parcel for the water system is $10,000, which includes a water main
in the street and a service stub at the edge of the street Right of Way. For the sanitary sewer
system, the per parcel cost does not include the cost of installing the grinder pump station,
installing the service connection from the sewer stub to the grinder pump station, or abandoning
the septic system. For the water system, the estimated cost does not include any costs for the
installation of the service line between the Right of Way and the home, plumbing costs or, if
necessary, abandoning existing wells.
Telephone(952)249-4600 • Fax(952)249-4616
www.ci.orono.mn.us
