Construction is nearing completion and exterior stone
vicencer work will begin Soon. The buildt:r is proposing to use a thin stone veneer that is
separated from the exterior building sheathing using metal furring strips. The stone iti glued to
[fie strips for permanent attachment. The City Building Inspection Department is trquesting
that Ulteig review this system for structural adequacy. The following information was
provided by the contractor and StoneAdvise, the stone venecr manufacturer:
1. A meta) furring strip is installed parallel with studs at a maximum of 16' on center, The
strip is attached to the studs with 2" long MP14, multi purpose fasteners at 12" on center,
with a ,ninimurn 1" embed into the wall studs. The metal material and shape is to be in
accordance with SioneAdvise requirements.
2. The stone is attached to the furring strip;: with LT tape for temporary --upport and
StoncMate continuous l;lite for permanent support. Clean the metal with LT cleaner prior to
attaching; the stone veneer. The glue is reported to mointain full strength for a minimum of
20 vears.
3. The stone veneer is approximately l/+" thick.
4. Vertical control joints may be required at inside corners and intermittent spacing. Verify
locations with the manufacturer. [used on the
information provided and completed project profiles, the proposed thin veneer system appears
to be a structurally adequal-0 solution for attachment of thin veneer to the main wall structure.
This document applies to structural only.
