5. SPECIAL INSTALLATION PROCEDURES
SPECIAL INSTALLATION PROCEDURES No. 11
SHORT VALLEYS/WATER DIVERTERS
SHORT VALLEYS
This situation occurs when a valley exits
onto the roof surface well above the fascia.
An extra valley cut panel is installed on top
RAKE BATTEN of an existing panel so that the valley metal
A B is concealed and held firmly in place.
Keep the valley cut panels tight against the
valley side walls so that the extra valley cut
panels do not impede the water flow.
(See III.)
VALLEY
WATER DIVERTERS'V'TYPE
Gerard recommends the use of custom
manufactured crickets/saddles for large
RAKE BATTEN roof protrusions, following is an alternative.
FIELD MADE DIVERTER:
Gerard panels can be cut and bent to be
used as water diverters to prevent pooling
A \ of water behind large roof protrusions not
exceeding 48' (1200 mm)in width. When
roof protrusions exceed 48' (1200 mm) in
width, a cricket/saddle made from
galvanized metal should be used. An
alternative method is to install the
diverters,so the water flow is shed around
BACK LIP the protrusion.
3"
When making a diverter, obtain the bend
lines by marking a large triangle onto the
BEND LINE panel by measuring 2' (50 mm) in from
1 3" each side and 3' (75 mm)down from the
CUT LINE back lip in the center of the panel. (See III.)
1" "L ® To obtain the cut lines,add 1'(25 mm)to
the bend lines. (See III.) Single direction
2" diverters are made by measuring down
from the back lip 6' (150mm)on one side
and 12'(300mm)on the other.
A SPECIAL INSTALLATION DETAILS:
Generally, these special details will
apply for Gerard Shake panels as well as
Gerard Tiles.
