• <br />MINUTES OF THE ORONO PLANNING COMMISSION <br />MEETING HELD ON JANUARY 21, 1997 <br />( 93 - 92187 Donald and Robin Helgager - Continued) <br />Helgager said he understands why guest house requirements prohibit more than one main <br />entrance. He noted that prior to remodeling, it had been difficult to know where the <br />primary entrance to the home was located. Helgager said the location of the single stall <br />garage is to enable the user of the guest house entry to the interior without having to walk <br />through the entire house. Smith suggested moving the garage location from the front of <br />the house so it would not protrude. Heupel brought the Commission's attention to the <br />steep topography of the property. Hawn inquired if the access from CoRd 6 could be <br />moved further west. Gaffron did not believe this would solve the problem. Helgager also <br />said it would increase hardcover. Lindquist reported his problem with the plan had to do <br />with the garage and not location to the lake side. <br />There were no public comments. <br />The applicant was informed that the Planning Commission's objection to the plan was the <br />garage. Helgager asked if it was the additional garage or the garage location to the road. <br />Hawn said she had a problem with both noting that she would prefer less garage area <br />farther from the road. Smith said she was concerned about the design of two distinct <br />living areas. She felt it would encourage the establishment of two residences in the future. <br />Lindquist indicated his concern about the proximity of the garage to the road. Schroeder <br />• was concerned about the future creation of two units and the proximity of the garage to <br />the road. McMillan noted there is limited area to resolve the issues and questioned <br />whether some square footage of living space should be eliminated to accommodate the <br />third garage. She does not wish to see any further encroachment to the lake side and sees <br />the lake as a bigger concern than that of CoRd 6. <br />At the applicant's request, Smith moved, Schroeder seconded, to table Application #2187 <br />to allow the applicant to review the plans.
