• <br />MINUTES OF THE ORONO PLANNING COMMISSION <br />MEETING HELD ON JULY 17, 1995 <br />( #3 - #2032 Michael & Lynne Gerhlicher - Continued) <br />The applicant presented photographs of the old and new fencing to the Commission <br />members. The new fencing is the same type as used on a property across the street from <br />subject property. <br />Rowlette read into the minutes a letter with 15 signatures from neighbors approving the <br />fence. <br />Smith voiced concern with allowing fencing that does not meet City code and possibly <br />creating alleyways of fencing. Lindquist said these concerns are valid but noted that the <br />fencing was a replacement. A recent application approval for a fence in the Narrows area <br />was cited, which Smith noted she did not vote in favor of Smith questioned whether <br />members would approve a new fence that was not within the 42" standard. Mabusth <br />asked if Commissioners would like to review the statement of hardship. Smith said she <br />was aware of the statement and noted the good quality of the fencing being used, but her <br />concern was with where the fencing issue was going in the future. <br />Rowlette asked how many homes (6) were beyond the applicant's due to poor sight lines. <br />The applicant added that being on top of a hill created the problem of car headlights <br />• shining into their home. Mr. Gerhlicher said he was out of town aiot, and the fence would <br />help create a sense of security for his home. Rowlette added that the fence did fit the <br />scheme of the property. She asked if bushes could be cleared to improve the sight lines. <br />The applicant said this could be done. <br />Smith asked if more space could be left on either side of the drive. The applicant said this <br />was possible, but the posts were already in place, as this area is not where a variance is <br />required. <br />There were no public comments. <br />Rowlette moved, Lindquist seconded, to approve Application #2032 for required setback <br />and height variance with the condition that the applicant work with Staff on improving <br />sight lines at the entrance through clearing of vegetation.
