I <br />MINUTES OF A HEGULAR 1 EBTING <br />PLANNING 0011KISSION 9 VILLAGE OF ORONO <br />NOVEIDMER 18t1963 <br />The meeting was called to order at 7:40 P.M. by Chair- <br />man D. J. Russell. Present were D.W.Judkinsg 11m. A. flurry, <br />H. S. Vice and K. Turnham, Absent: Ii.II.Boldon9 ti7. .Wolfe, <br />D.S.Cleveland, ffm.T.lrlills, R.C.Bagley and D.J.Boll. <br />APARTMENT BUILDINGS <br />SANDY B ;A011 <br />Messrs. Berglund and JohnsongContractors, were present <br />to obtain the opinion of the Planning Commission re their <br />plans to build apartment buildings totaling 44 units on the <br />site of what is now known as the Siandy Beach resort (Stenberg). <br />It was the consensus that such plans were in the realm of <br />possibility9but only after the extension of serer laterals <br />to the area and, even thong the dimensions of the site <br />would not justify the proposed number of units. <br />ORONO "SLUMS" ARBA S <br />K. TurnhamgVillage Inspector, showed a series of slides <br />depicting buildings in Orono that are in various states of <br />disrepair rendering them unfit for occupancy, especially <br />from the standpoint of sanitation4 The secretary was re- <br />quested to write a letter to Mr. Spencer Smith thanking him <br />for his part in providing these slides. <br />ZONING ORDINANCE <br />For the next two hours the Commission turned to the <br />continuing study and discussion of the proposed new zoning <br />ordinance. <br />Adjournment <br />The meeting was adjourned at 10:30 P.1r11. <br />S.
