This sewer system is available for hookup by neighborhood residents on a voluntary basis at this time. You can continue to use your existing septic system until the system fails or is required to be replaced because of it's nonconforming status. The present deadline for the replacement of non conforming septic systems is 2010. A conforming septic system can continue to be used until it either fails or is rendered nonconforming by future septic regulations. The sewer connection fee is currently $6,500 and will be adjusted for inflation on an annual basis. This connection fee can either be paid before connection to the sewer system or be assessed over a 15-year time period at a 6.25% annual interest rate. A signed assessment waiver will be required if you request to be assessed for the connection fee. In addition to the connection fee,there is a one time SAC fee of$1,275.This SAC fee increases on an annual basis and is payment for the additional costs of the future downstream capacity in the Metropolitan Council Sewer System. This pressure sewer system requires that each property owner install and maintain their own individual grinder pump station. A"progressive cavity"grinder pump will be required,and the City needs to approve the pump that will be installed to ensure compatibility with the sewer system. The estimated property owner costs for the grinder pump station, service connection, and septic tank abandonment can range from$7,000 to $12,000 depending on the length of the service connection required.
