HAU G O UPON
D copy
April 25,2016 HGTS Project Number: 16-0219
e c?/`- (S Aa
Mr. Tim Schwob
Welch Forsman Associates, Inc. 7 -t,-Cg 0-\ 61
6026 Pillsbury Ave S
Minneapolis, MN 55419
Re: Geotechnical Exploration Report,Proposed Garage Building,
755 Tonkawa Road,Orono,MN
Mr. Tim Schwob:
We have completed the geotechnical exploration report for the proposed garage building at
755 Tonkawa Road in Orono, Minnesota. A brief summary of our results and
recommendations is presented below. Additional details regarding our procedures, results
and recommendations follow in the attached geotechnical exploration report.
Two(2)soil borings were completed for this project that extended to nominal depths of 20 feet
below the ground surface. The soil borings encountered about 4 feet of existing topsoil fill
and fill underlain by native clayey glacial till soils that extended to the termination depths of
the borings. Groundwater was not encountered in either boring while drilling and sampling,
or after the augers were removed from the boreholes to a cave-in depth of 12 feet.
The existing fill is not suitable for foundation support and will need to be removed and
replaced with suitable compacted engineered fill. The underlying native clay glacial till soils
appear directly suitable for foundation support. The footings for the proposed garage
building can be supported on the native clay soils or compacted engineered fill designed for
a net allowable soil bearing pressure up to 2,000 pounds per square foot.
Thank you for the opportunity to assist you on this project. If you have any questions or need
additional information please contact Brett Maki at 612-269-4027 or John Carlson at
612-979-3542.
Sincerely,
HAUGO GEOTECHNICAL SERVICES,LLC
Brett S.
