His <br />leadership and experience covers <br />development, management, and delivery <br />of urban design and planning services <br />to municipalities, county/state/federal <br />government, park boards, planning <br />agencies, developers, colleges and <br />universities. <br />Michael has led and collaborated <br />on several significant planning and <br />redevelopment efforts in the Twin Cities <br />region, and the upper Midwest, that <br />have incorporated smart -growth, transit <br />oriented, and new -urban principles and <br />patterns. He has used his training and <br />education in architecture, urban design <br />and planning to build his practice <br />around a community-based and multi- <br />disciplinary approach. <br />His expertise includes organizing and <br />facilitating design charrettes, interactive, <br />hands-on public engagement, town <br />planning, transit -oriented development, <br />and form -based codes. Over his <br />career he has developed a focus on <br />the redevelopment of core cities and <br />urban districts that have required an <br />emphasis on holistic, community-based <br />reinvestment. In this capacity he has a <br />valuable background in collaborating <br />with community organizations, leading <br />teams, and providing strategic, realistic <br />solutions that are appropriate for the <br />local context and culture.
