Purpose. The purpose of this action item is to consider a variance to allow a solar energy system to <br />be mounted on the ground. <br />2. 15.99 Deadline July 17, 2017 <br />3. Background/ Summary. The property owner requests a variance to allow a solar energy system to <br />be mounted on the ground. The Ordinance allows solar energy systems only to be placed on a structure <br />and no more than 3 feet above the roof surface. The variance is necessary because the peak of the roof <br />runs north/ south, and to maximize the benefit, should run east/west. <br />The proposed solar array is located on the ground, is heavily screened from view from the adjacent street <br />and neighboring properties, and meets all structural, hardcover, and setback requirements. <br />4. Planning Commission Vote and Comment. The Planning Commission held the public hearing on <br />June 19, 2017 and voted to recommend approval with a 6-0 vote. The minutes from that meeting are <br />attached as Exhibit C. <br />5. Public Comment. No comments have been received for or against the proposal. <br />6. Staff Recommendation.
