AGENDA ITEM <br />Item No.: 5 Date: July 10, 2017 <br />Item Description: Replacement Sewer Pumps for Lift Station 28 and Lift Station 20 <br />Presenter: Adam T. Edwards Agenda Consent <br />Public Works Director/City Engineer Section: <br />1. Purpose. The purpose of this council action item is to gain council approval to replace a <br />failed sewer Pump on Lift Station 28 and two undersized pumps on Lift Station 20. <br />2. Background. The Sewer department has suffered two pump related maintenance issues over the last <br />month. <br />a. One of the two pumps at Lift Station 28 (632 Park Avenue) has failed. The other pump <br />at the lift station failed last fall and was replaced. Expected life of one of these pumps is <br />approximately 20 years. Currently we are using a rental pump to maintain pump redundancy at <br />the lift station. <br />b. With the recent additional development in the sewer shed the pumps in Lift Station 20 <br />(I 100 Elmwood Ave) have proven to be inadequately sized for purpose. The current pumps are <br />6.5 HP pumps however need to be 10 HP to handle the flows from the upstream stations. <br />3. Scope. Replacement of one pump and accessories and installation at Lift Station 28. <br />Replacement of two pumps at Lift Station 20. <br />4. Cost. The City received 2 quotes. Listed below. <br />Contractor <br />Total Quote <br />Note <br />Quality Flow Systems Inc. <br />$ 25,080 <br />Includes KSB Pumps, Training and <br />Warrantee <br />Minnesota Pump Works <br />$ 23,755 <br />Included ABS Pumps. <br />5. Funding. This project will be funded through the Sanitary Sewer Enterprise Fund. The estimated <br />balance at then Endo f year 2017 is $1,659,532. <br />6. Staff Recommendation. Staff Recommends replacement of the three pumps by Quality Flow <br />Systems. Quality Flows proposal includes KSB pumps which is common to others in our system and <br />includes installation, training and warrantee. <br />COUNCIL ACTION REQUESTED <br />Motion to accept the proposal from Quality Flow Systems Inc for the replacement of three sewer pumps <br />for $ 25,080. <br />Exhibits. <br />Exhibit A.
