June 11, 2017
Re: #17-3911, Lakewest, LLC 3245 Wayzata Blvd and Mr. Fretham's request for an Interim Use
Permit to allow a gravel crushing facility on his property (the old Eisinger property).
Dear Mike Gaffron and Orono City Council members,
The Dumas family has already submitted a letter with specific reasons why we are not in favor
of a gravel crushing facility at the old Eisinger property. As there seems to be different opinions
on this issue by the Orono Council members, we felt the need to send another letter prior to
your June 12 meeting.
I think everybody can agree on the fact that nobody really wants to have any gravel crushing
done near their home or property! Wouldn't it make more sense and be much more fair to
spread out this unwanted activity so that everybody along the way has to deal with it for only a
short time rather than making one family deal with it the entire time?
By leaving things the way they are operating now, everybody along the Hwy 12 corridor will
have to deal with the gravel crushing that is happening on site, but only for a very short time.
By granting an Interim Use Permit for gravel crushing at the old Eisinger property, you condemn
the Dumas family and the apple farm to 3-5 years of gravel crushing only a short distance away
with constant trucks back and forth along our apple farm and right next to our house.
Some of you may feel it's better to condemn one family for 3-5 years rather than lots of people
for a short period, but we would like each of you Orono Council members to consider this. If
there was a potential for gravel crushing and constant trucks going back and forth near your
house; would you prefer it happened for a very short period of time, or would you prefer it near
your house for 3-5 years! I think if it were near your house, you would find an easy answer to
that question.
If you allow gravel crushing at the Eisinger property, you also set a precedent and risk creating a
whole litany of other problems that were not there in the first place.
Keep in mind that this proposal is for a financial gain for Lakewest, LLC. We don't feel the
Dumas Apple House should be chastised for another company's financial gain.
Sincerely,
Marilyn (Dumas) Gabert
PO Box 323
Boulder Junction, WI 54512
mgabert@centurytel.net
