Purpose. The purpose of this action item is to provide an update on the Prescription Drug Take Back <br />Program <br />2. Background. The Police Department has developed a plan to take back prescription drugs once a <br />year during the City's Spring Clean Up. This year's Spring Clean Up event will be on April 29, 2017. <br />The Orono Police Department has also partnered with the Crime Prevention Fund to provide deactivating <br />drug bags to residents. These bags can be used for small quantities of pills, patches or liquids that need to <br />be disposed of effectively, safely and quickly. <br />3. Project Scope. Purchase, distribution and educating the community of the safe disposal of unwanted <br />prescription drugs. <br />4. Cost. Each pouch is $2.69. The Crime Prevention Fund has purchased 300 of these bags for our <br />department to distribute. <br />5. Funding. This project will be funded through the Crime Prevention Fund and Orono Police <br />Department with an annual cost of $300 to $500. <br />6. Staff Recommendation.
