grant amount is $100,000. Minnehaha Creek has indicated they will administer the carp netting and assist
with administration for an in-kind contribution of approximately $60,000. The remaining $60,000 is
proposed to be split between the three partnership cities over the 3 -year period. The financial contribution
of the City for the project would be $20,000 over three years or $6,667.00/year. The Capital Improvement
Plan budgets $50,000 per year for TMDL work.
6. Process. Authorizing the City to participate in the grant application does not commit the City to
participating in the project, rather if a grant is received staff would bring forward a joint powers agreement
for Council consideration. Staff will continue to pursue grant opportunities, including additional funds for
offsetting city costs for this project for subsequent years.
7. Resolution. The attached resolution (Exhibit A), if adopted, provides a commitment from the City of
Orono to pursue the Hennepin County Grant.
8. Recommendation. I am recommending the city participate in the grant application and study. The
data gained will inform future activities aimed at improving water quality throughout the watershed.
COUNCIL ACTION REQUESTED
Motion to adopt the attached resolutions partner with other intergovernmental agencies in seeking grants to
improve water quality in the Long Lake Creek Subwatershed.
