Purpose. To obtain authorization to purchase a new MX -E server for the City's phone system. <br />2. Background. In 2012 the City purchased a new Zultys voice over internet phone system. The <br />system including phones, wiring, support, and an MX250 server cost just over $48,000. The MX server <br />receives and distributes all of the traffic for the phone system. The server is now 5 years old which <br />equals the maximum lifecycle for servers on our data network. Additionally, our current phone server <br />cannot be upgraded to the newest version (R14) of the Zultys' software. The R14 and future versions <br />include security patches that will not be available if we remain on the current software. <br />3. Cost. The cost of the new MX -E server is $6,316.00 and comes with one year of software assurance. <br />If the server is not replaced, the City will still need to purchase the software assurance at a cost of <br />$3,348.00. The net cost for purchasing the server will be $2,968.00. <br />4. Funding. This purchase will be made out of the Improvement Equipment Outlay Fund. <br />5. Staff Recommendation. Staff recommends approval of the purchase of a new MX -E server for the <br />City's voice over internet phone system. <br />COUNCIL ACTION REQUESTED <br />Motion to approve the purchase of a new MX -E server for the City's voice over internet phone system. <br />Exhibits <br />Exhibit A.
