Purpose. The purpose of this action item is to adopt a resolution approving an adjustment to the 2018 <br />compensation plan for non-union employees. <br />2. Background. The City adopts an updated non-union pay scale annually. The 2018 pay scale was <br />approved at the December 10, 2017 meeting. Also adopted at that meeting was the 2018 City Budget. <br />Included in the budget was the funding to pay for additional wages and benefits to move the Deputy Chief <br />position from Grade 14 to Grade 15 of the pay scale. The need for this change has been being discussed <br />at a staff level for the last few years. The change was discussed with the Council at the April 23' work - <br />session. <br />3. Cost. The current Deputy Chief is at Step 7 of Grade 14 in the pay scale. Including benefits, a move <br />to Step 7 of Grade 15 would cost an additional $7,281.00. <br />4. Funding. The funding required for this change to the compensation plan is already included in the <br />2018 budget. <br />5. Staff Recommendation. Staff recommends approval of a Resolution Approving a Compensation <br />Plan Adjustment, moving the Deputy Chief to grade 15 effective May 14, 2018. <br />COUNCIL ACTION REQUESTED <br />Motion to adopt a Resolution Approving an Adjustment to the 2018 Compensation Plan for Non-union <br />Employees. <br />Exhibits <br />Exhibit A.
