Minutes of the <br />Orono City Council Work Session <br />Tuesday, March 20, 2018 <br />Council Chambers 5:00 p.m. <br />PRESENT: Mayor Dennis Walsh, Council Members Richard F. Crosby II, and Wendy <br />Dankey, Aaron Printup and Victoria Seals. Representing staff were City Administrator <br />Dustin Rief and Development Director Jeremy Barnhart. <br />Meeting Start Time: 5:00 p.m. <br />1. Planning Commission Interviews <br />Planning Commissioner Candidates were interviewed by City Council Members. <br />2. Purchasing and Land Acquisition Policy Discussion <br />This item was not discussed at the Work Session. <br />3. Met Council Overreach Discussion <br />Council Member Aaron Printup introduced the Met Council Overreach item. He <br />mentioned that a couple years earlier the City Council had discussed joining up with a <br />coalition made up of other cities and counties to work towards a reform of the <br />Metropolitan Council. Through consensus of the City Council, a resolution supporting <br />the Met Council Reform will be presented at the April 9th regular Council meeting. <br />4. Street Improvement District Discussion <br />Printup introduced the Street Improvement District item. In April 2013, City Council <br />approved a letter of support for enabling legislation to authorize cities the ability to <br />establish street improvement districts to fund municipal street maintenance, construction <br />and reconstruction was approved. Printup mentioned that the League of Minnesota Cities <br />mentioned that it is once more being moved through legislation. There was discussion <br />regarding if there was a need to have street improvement districts in Orono. Through <br />consensus of the City Council a letter of non-support of Street Improvement Districts will <br />be presented at the April 9th regular meeting. <br />Meeting End Time: 6:55 p.m. <br />
