AGENDA ITEM <br />Item No. 7 <br />Date: January 8, 2018 <br />Item Description: Sentence to Serve Contract Renewal — Park Maintenance <br />Presenter: Adam T. Edwards Agenda Consent Agenda <br />Public Works Director/City Engineer Section: <br />1. Purpose. The purpose of this action is to gain council approval to enter into a contract with <br />Hennepin County Sentence to Serve (STS) for park maintenance. <br />2. Background. The STS program provides individuals sentenced to community service to <br />support the maintenance needs of the municipalities in Hennepin County. To maintain a regular <br />service the program requires municipalities to offset some of the expense of the program and <br />enter into a contract. The City used STS the last couple years to perform maintenance activities <br />at our parks and facilities such as debris removal and buckthorn removal. The contract provides <br />a cost effective method to complete some of the labor intensive maintenance operations in our <br />parks and facilities. <br />3. Project Scope. The contract will provide up to 19 crew days' worth of support from the STS <br />program at Orono City Parks. A crew is a correctional officer with 6-10 STS members. <br />4. Cost. The 2018 rate is $367.50 per day per crew. The total cost for the years shall not exceed <br />$6982.50 <br />5. Funding. The contract will be funded out of the parks' budget. <br />6. Staff Recommendation.
