Safety Program <br />The City will endeavor through its safety program to assist all departments in their efforts <br />to maintain a safe and healthy work place; provide safe working equipment; inform employees of <br />proper work habits and procedures which will maximize the potential of an accident -free work <br />environment; monitor the existence of proper first aid and emergency equipment and procedures <br />as well as employee knowledge and training in the use of such equipment and procedures; and <br />insure the availability and speedy access of City employees to emergency medical services in the <br />event of an accident or medical emergency. <br />The City safety program provides: <br />a. Safety inspections of the work place environment, machines and equipment, <br />procedures and work habits, as well as access to first aid and emergency medical support access. <br />b. Incident or complaint review of specific work locations, accidents or injuries, <br />machines, or equipment; recommended work habits or procedures to be carried out in the event <br />of a lost -time accident, a reported or suspected health hazard, an employee complaint, or a <br />supervisor's request. <br />C. Safety and protection procedures that make known to employees the existence of <br />potential health hazards, proper protective procedures, and safety and health rules and <br />requirements, as well as emergency procedures. <br />d. Safety education programs which provide safety information and training to <br />employees through demonstrations, training sessions, and verbal and written communications. <br />e. Program enforcement through managers and supervisors who are knowledgeable <br />in safety procedures, who promulgate safe safety attitudes, and who publish and enforce <br />compliance with employee safety and health rules and regulations within the sphere of their work <br />authority. <br />The responsibilities for safety must be shared. <br />a. City Administrator. The City Administrator is provided with the authority to <br />establish, promulgate and enforce City-wide safety and health procedures, rules and regulations. <br />The City Administrator will appoint a safety coordinator who is charged with directing all <br />recommendations for modification to safety and health policies, procedures, standards and <br />practices to the City Administrator. <br />b. Department Heads and Supervisors. Department heads and supervisors will be <br />responsible for instructing employees within their departments on safe practices to be observed <br />in the work place and enforcing safety standards and requirements to the best of their ability and <br />authority. <br />20 <br />142286x12 <br />
