I )MON 2905-2907 I <br /> (d) Expansive Soils.When expansive soils are present,the building official <br /> may require that special provisions be made in the foundation design and con- �D <br /> ( struction to safeguard against damage due to this expansiveness.He may require a <br /> special investigation and report to provide this design and construction criteria. <br /> (e)Adjacent Loads.Where footings are placed at varying elevations the effect <br /> of adjacent loads shall be included in the foundation design. <br /> (f)Drainage.Provisions shall be made for the control and drainage of surface <br /> water around buildings.[See also Section 2907(d)6]. n <br /> Allowable Foundation and Lateral Pressures J <br /> Sec.2906.The allowable foundation and lateral pressures shall not exceed the <br /> values set forth in Table No. 29-B unless data to substantiate the use of higher <br /> values are submitted.Table No.29-B may be used for design of foundations on <br /> rock or nonexpansive soil for Types II One-hour,U-N and V buildings which do <br /> not exceed three stories in height or for structures which have continuous footings <br /> having a load of less than 2000 pounds per lineal foot and isolated footings with <br /> loads of less than 50,000 pounds. <br /> Footings <br /> Sec.2907.(a)General.Footings and foundations,unless otherwise specifi- <br /> cally provided, shall be constructed of masonry, concrete or treated wood in <br /> conformance with U.B.C.Standard No.29-3 and in all cases shall extend below <br /> the frost line. Footings of concrete and masonry shall be of solid material. <br /> Foundations supporting wood shall extend at least 6 inches above the adjacent <br /> finish grade.Footings shall have a minimum depth as indicated in Table No.29-A <br /> unless another depth is recommended by a foundation investigation. <br /> (b)Bearing Walls. Bearing walls shall be supported on masonry or concrete <br /> foundations or piles or other approved foundation system which shall be of <br /> f" sufficient size to support all loads.Where a design is not provided,the minimum <br /> foundation requirements for stud bearing walls shall be as set forth in Table No. <br /> 29-A. <br /> EXCEPTIONS:1.A one-story wood or metal frame building not used for human <br /> occupancy and not over 400 square feet in floor area may be constructed with walls <br /> supported on a wood foundation plate when approved by the building official. <br /> 2. The support of buildings by posts embedded in earth shall be designed as <br /> specified in Section 2907 (g). Wood posts or poles embedded in earth shall be <br /> pressure treated with an approved preservative. Steel posts or poles shall be pro- <br /> tected as specified in Section 2908(h). <br /> (c)Stepped Foundations.Foundations for all buildings where the surface of <br /> the ground slopes more than 1 foot in 10 feet shall be level or shall be stepped so <br /> that both top and bottom of such foundation are level. <br /> (d)Footings on or Adjacent to Slopes. 1.Scope.The placement of buildings <br /> and structures on or adjacent to slopes steeper than 3 horizontal to 1 vertical shall <br /> be in accordance with this section. <br /> 2.
