The release of the escrow depends on a satisfactory final inspection with
our engineer and compliance with the MCWD permitting. Please let me know when I should schedule a final inspection by
our engineer. If you have a final as-built conditions survey or site plan please forward to me for this inspection.
Melanie
Melanie Curtis
2952.249.4627 ®mcurbs@cLorono.mmus
From: Doug Mensing [mailto:dougm@appliedeco.com)
Sent:Wednesday,October 07,2015 3:57 PM
To: Doug Mensing<dougm@appliedeco.com>; Melanie Curtis<MCurtis@ci.orono.mn.us>;Jenny, Melissa M MVP
<Melissa.M.Jenny@usace.army.mil>; Beth Brown(ebrown@minnehahacreek.org)<ebrown@minnehahacreek.org>;
Ben.Meyer@state.mn.us; bobbe@bolton-menk.com; David P. For those of you who have not heard, Dr. Nelson
received a Watershed Hero award (Outstanding Contribution Award)from the Minnehaha Creek Watershed District for
this restoration project. It is wonderful and encouraging to see such recognition.
AES conducted numerous assessments of the site throughout the 2015 growing season. Attached is a photo from our
recent(September 2, 2015) monitoring visit, showing the Deep Marsh and the densely vegetated, native-dominated
Wet Meadow. The designed and desired hydrology has been maintained throughout the growing season. As expected,
purple loosestrife and cattail have continued to pressure the wetland,so AES collected (off-site)and released (on-site)
purple loosestrife beetles,we clipped loosestrife flowering heads prior to seed drop, and we herbicided cattails. Reed
canary grass is present in a few areas along the wetland's edge and is also being treated. AES will continue to monitor
and practice adaptive management to maximize success of the project and achieve performance standards. The two
rain gardens have been constructed, and AES has been authorized to install a bat house and wood duck nesting
boxes. We are continuing our wildlife surveys, and our annual wetland monitoring report is being drafted for submittal
before year's end.
On July 27, 2015,the MPCA confirmed termination of the Construction Stormwater Permit for the project(pasted
below). We would appreciate clarifications from the City of Orono (related to Land Use &Conditional Use Permit and
1
