PREPARATION IErOR DELfYERY
6.1 PackesgW and 1P'aefdng — Tfre material shall be rallied on a suitable core and packed in standard commetvial
containers constructed so as to be acceptable by comma or other catriet (par. 8.0.
6.2 Labelling--The containers shall be suitably marked to show the following information, unless otherwise specified
(par. 8.1)'
Manufacturer's or distributor's name
Trades name of the product
Type and class
The phrase "Low UV exposure" (if applicable)
Recommended adhesives (if applicable)
Standard number. CAN/CGSB-37.54-95
Maas
Coverage.
7. INSPECTION
7.1 Sstapllttg-- If the lap-jointed specimens are to be made in the testing laboratory, a sample of sheet material of
sufficient size to determine conformance to this standard shall be selected at random from each lot or shipment f
fabricated material. if the lap jointed specimens are to be provided to the testing laboratory, a sample, iDeludinS a
seam, of approximately 2 m2 is required.
7.2 Cemdlifening — Unless otherwise specified (par.8.1). condition the tat specimens in accordance with ASTM
D619, Procedure A prior to testing. The temperature and relative humidity dealt be 23 f 2°C and 50:k5
respectively.
7.3 Testing
7.3.1 Overall Thickness—For Types 1 and 2 membranes, measure in accordance with ASTM D 638, and for Type 3
and 4 membranes measure in accordance with ASTM D 751. Exclude the thickness of any fabric backing (toe
backing may have to be removed to perform the thickness measurement).Peafam five determinations of the overall
thickness and report the average.
7.3.2 Coafing or Laminant Thkknsss(Typet 3 and 4 only)---Carefully centre A$harp, single edge razor blade over lira
fibre intersections along the x-x axis (a diagonal line joining fibre intersection points). Make a clean bias cut
completely through the shoot.Remove the cut section and mount with the cut surface facing upward(putty has beta
used satisfactorily for mounting specimus). Using a travelling microscope with A tna9111fica len of at least 6OX,
measure the minimum thickness of PVC between fibre and the weather surface of the nwnbrane,at the point where
the fibres intersect.Perform this measurement at five different fibro intersection points and average the results. Also
report if any of the five measurements is less than 6.32 nun, since this conatitutes nonconformance to
tic
requirement.
7.3.3 Tensile S&oxgth and Ekngatien(Types t and 2)—Measure in accordance with ASTM D 638 in both the machi
and cross machine directions.Use specimen type M-I and a crosshead speed of 500 mm/min.8xtend to failure,
TM
tensile strength is calculated by dividing the load at failure by the cross sectional area of the unstralned mem
Perform five tests in the machine direction and average the results, and perform five testa in the cross rawhinc
direction and average the results. Both sets of results must meet the requirements in Table 1.
7.3.4 Breaking StrengA and Elongation (Types 3 and 4)—Measure in accordance with ASTM D 751,Procedure A
Grab.Method, in both the machine and cross machine directions.Terminate the teat after the first break as noted on
the chart recorder(usually due:to break of the reinforcement). Observe the specimen to determine whether the
is restricted to the reinforcement or whather the PVC matrix has also broken. The breaking strength is calculated by
dividing the load at break by the width of the grip. Perform five tests in the machine direction and average On
results, and perforin five tests in the cross machine direction and average the results.Botts sett of results must meet
the rrsreuirementa in Table 1, and the PVC matrix must be intact after the rei.afomemesnt has broken.
