ORONO CITY COUNCIL MEETING HELD JULY 22, 1991 <br />( #15)LAKE USE COMMITTEE CONTINUED, <br />Bernhardson's July 12, 1991 memo, and took.no formal action on <br />this matter. <br />( #16)EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS SIREN- MINNETONKA BEACH / ORONO <br />Bernhardson informed Council that the City of Minnetonka <br />Beach decided, in 1988, to purchase and install an emergency <br />preparedness siren, at the recommendation of Orono Police--Chief <br />Mel Kilbo. This siren would provide coverage to portions. of <br />Orono,. such as Crystal Bay. and Big Island. The City of Orono <br />agreed to contribute $3,500 to the City of Minnetonka Beach for <br />use toward the purchase of the siren. Recently, the Minnetonka <br />Beach Council agreed that they would prefer to have an electronic <br />siren, which would function even in the case of a power outage. <br />The City of Minnetonka Beach is asking the City of Orono to <br />contribute an additional $1,800 toward the purchase of the 125 <br />decibel electronic siren, which is more costly than the siren <br />they had first intended to purchase. <br />It was moved by Goetten, seconded by Jabbour, that Council <br />authorize that an additional sum of $1,800 be paid to the City of <br />Minnetonka *for the installation of a 125 decibel electronic <br />mechanical siren in the Hill Road area of Pinnetonka Beach to <br />provide long -term coverage.for Big Island and the abutting waters <br />in the area, together with interim coverage in the Crystal <br />Bay /North Shore area. All voted aye. P4otion passed.. <br />( #17)HIGHFIAY 12 CORRIDOR STUDY <br />Bernhardson presented Council with a professional services <br />proposal from the Consulting Engineering firm of <br />Strgar- Roscoe - Fausch, Inc., in relation to providing <br />transportation engineering services to the City of Orono for the <br />Highway 12 Corridor study.. He advised that the cost estimate for <br />the services outlined in the proposal would be $7,200. <br />Goetten stated that Strgar- Roscoe - Fausch has an excellent <br />reputation; and that she would highly recommend hiring the firm. , <br />It was moved by Jabbour, seconded by Callahan; to authorize <br />Staff to engage the services of SRF for general transportation <br />purposes, planning purposes, together with utilization of other <br />systems in the Highway 12 process in accordance with the schedule <br />set forth in Attachment B, and that those monies come from the <br />City's Fund Balance after the special-projects amount has been <br />extended. All voted aye. Motion passed. <br />( #18)CITY RECORDER REPLACEMENT <br />.. Bernhardson advised, that Deputy Clerk, Teri Naab, had <br />submitted her resignation from that position, contingent on the <br />City entering into a contractual. agreement with her as its City <br />Recorder. He further explained that Lin Vee has expressed <br />interest in pursuing the Deputy Clerk's position, and that he <br />- 14 - <br />
