! • 1 <br />MINUTES OF THE REGULAR ORONO COUNCIL MEETING <br />HELD AUGUST 10, 1992 <br />{ LEAF STREET — CONT. <br />Crane submitted a petition of residents who agree to a 28' wide <br />road if 70% of the benefit is realized by those paying for the <br />reconstruction of the road. <br />Jabbour asked which petition the Council should consider. <br />Crane felt the later petition submitted should control. <br />Gronberg asked about additional hardcover from the widened roadway. <br />M1nkema Indicated she felt a change in philosophy on the' part of <br />the Council with regards to this issue and hoped this did not <br />Indicate a trend. <br />Goetten noted they are very concerned about the environment and <br />hope to keep the area as rural as possible, but also have to be <br />aware and consider future growth and safety concerns. <br />Behrman clarified that the residents that signed the petition she <br />submitted are opposed to the roadway constructed to MSA standards, <br />however, it the Council decides to do so, they would like to <br />realize the financial benefit. <br />Furchner felt that safety on the roadway Is not a major issue. <br />Rhame stated his opposition to the widening of the road. <br />Mayor Peterson noted that the Council would vote on this issue at <br />the August 24, 1992 Council meeting and said the residents would <br />be notified of this meeting. <br />The Council recessed from 8:15 to 8:30 p.m. <br />VISITOR PRESENTATION <br />Mayor Peterson introduced Saso Tepina' from Slovenia. She explained <br />he has come here to visit his pen pal, Mr. Aaron PrIntup. She <br />presented Saso with a pen and a centennial book from Orono. <br />( #1) CONSENT AGENDA <br />Mayor Peterson removed Item #2.. <br />It was moved by Goetten seconded by Callahan, to approve the <br />Consent Agenda as amended.
