MINUTES OF THE REGULAR ORONO COUNCIL MEETING HELD MAY 11, 1992 MAYOR /COUNCIL REPORT — CONT. C) Mayor Peterson announced the annual meeting of the AMM to be held a week from Thursday. She explained that at the last meeting they discussed Legislative action taken during the year and the items the AMM had dealt with. Butler asked if the AMM was successful to loosen up on aid to cities. Mayor Peterson affirmed they were. Jabbour asked about sales tax. Mayor Peterson stated the AMM supported the sales tax bill. D) Goetten explained she attended a meeting last Thursday of the Endorsing Committee. Her concern was that a few persons (Steve Smith, Gen Olson and John Burger) decided to support Mary Miller as the new candidate. Goetten felt that due to Miller's irrevocable position on the use of the southern corridor for Highway 12, she felt it incredible that these people nominated Miller. She felt it was a mistake to support someone who couldn't win this area because of her position on the corridor. She stated that perhaps they have already made a decision on where the corridor will be going. ( * #10) PAY REQUEST #1 WATER TOWER HIGHWAY 12 It was moved by Jabbour, seconded by Goetten, to authorize payment of Pay Request #1 for the water tower to Pitt DenMoines for an amount of $94,130.75. Ayes 4, nays 0. ( * #11) AWARD LIQUOR LIABILITY INSURANCE — GOLF COURSE It was moved by Jabbour, seconded by Goetten, to award the City of Orono Golf Course liquor liability insurance coverage for the policy year April 1, 1992 through March 31, 1992 to the St. Paul Insurance Company at a premium of $1,375. Ayes 4, nays 0. ( * #12) POLICE INTERN It was moved by Jabbour, seconded by Goetten, to authorize Ryan Franzen to participate in a 150 hour internship for college credit through Normandale Community College by working with the police department as a volunteer during Summer 1992.
