MINUTES OF THE REGULAR ORONO COUNCIL MEETING <br />HELD MARCH 9, 1992 <br />( * #3) APPROVAL OF MINUTES <br />It was moved by Jabbour, seconded by Goetten, to approve the <br />minutes of the regular meeting of the Orono Council held on <br />February 24, 1992. Ayes 4, nays 0. <br />PARK COMMISSION COMMENTS <br />Park Commission Chair Dick Flint explained he was there to discuss <br />the usage of Bederwood Park by OBA for the 1992 season. He stated <br />that Gary Larson, OBA, has addressed the Park Commission on this <br />matter, and notice has been given to'surrounding neighbors,' and <br />there were no negative comments. He stated the usage will continue <br />the same as last 'year at Bederwood Park. He indicated the <br />Commission has discussed future usage of school property by OBA. <br />He noted the Commission voted 7 -0 to recommend usage of Bederwood <br />Park by OBA for the 1992 season. <br />Jabbour expressed approval of the plans shown to the Council for <br />future fields-on the school property. <br />Flint noted that the Hockey Association did not approve of the <br />arena being moved westward, but they would continue to work on the <br />issue. <br />Jabbour noted that the approval of the usage of Bederwood Park <br />should be formally on the agenda before the Council could vote on <br />it. <br />Callahan noted the =OBA and the,Hockey Association are private <br />organizations, and felt the City should not be involved in the <br />planning process for these groups. <br />Fli °nt noted they are involved because of the planning aspect. He <br />•explained that the Hockey Association will actually purchase the <br />I and for the arena, but OBA w i I I • be us i ng the I and owned by the <br />school under a joint powers agreement with the school and the City. <br />`Callahan asked who'has. said this will be operated under a joint <br />powers agreement with the City.' <br />Flint noted they will need to determine another way if that is not <br />amenable. <br />Goetten noted• the City's obligation to help find areas for the <br />youth in the area to play sports. <br />4 <br />
