MINUTES OF ORONO COUNCIL MEETING HELD MARCH 12, 1990 <br />SECRETARIAL EMPLOYMENT CONTINUED • <br />after six months. Motion, Ayes -5, Nays -0, Motion passed. <br />POLICE PART TIME SECRETARY <br />SALARY REVIEW <br />Bernhardson informed the Council that this individual had <br />received a 4% increase at the beginning of 1990. Bernhardson <br />said that he is still recommending a step increase to $6.64 per <br />hour. <br />It was moved by Mayor Grabek, seconded by Councilmember <br />Nettles, to approve the increase of the part time police <br />secretary to $6.64 /hour effective 1/1/90. Motion, Ayes -5, Nays - <br />0, Motion passed. <br />PUBLIC WORKS SUPERVISOR* <br />It was moved by Councilmember Goetten, seconded by <br />Councilmember Peterson, to approve the re- classification of <br />position of Public Works Supervisor II to Level 10 and <br />additionally approves an increase in compensation level for Mr. <br />Jack Brinkhaus as holder of that job position to $17.389 <br />retroactive to August 29, 1989 which is the date Mr. Brinkhaus <br />began performing in that position. It is also moved that there <br />be a performance and salary review on the one year anniversary. <br />Motion, Ayes -5, Nays -0, Motion passed. <br />JOINT COUNCIL /PLANNING COMMISSION MEETING • <br />It was agreed that the Joint Council /Planning Commission <br />Meeting would be held on Saturday, April 7, 1990 at 8:30 a.m. <br />BID AWARD STREET SWEEPER <br />Councilmember Peterson indicated that proposed expenditures <br />as large as this should not be placed on the Consent Agenda. <br />Peterson asked Public Works Director Gerhardson whether he has <br />approached other cities regarding a shared use of the street <br />sweeper. <br />Gerhardson replied that Spring Park indicated they were very <br />interested. Gerhardson said he has discussed the matter with <br />Long Lake but they have not indicated their position. <br />Councilmember Goetten asked how long the street sweeper will <br />last? <br />Gerhardson replied that it should last 15 years. <br />Goetten asked how the purchase of this sweeper will benefit <br />Orono? <br />Gerhardson replied that purchasing the equipment will save <br />the City money in the long term and will allow for an increased <br />street sweeping program. <br />- 24 - • <br />
