, • , , ,
'' Cc:Christine Mattson<CMattson@ci.orono.mn.us>; Melanie Curtis<MCurtis@ci.orono.mn.us>
Subject: FW:Automatic reply: Deck Permit for 3011 Sussex Road
i

;
' Hi Juan,
i I will try to provide the information you are requesting below. My answers to your questions are in bold.
! Hi Christine, I was following up on our phone conversation of last week regarding my request for a deck
'' building permit. You stated that I would need to delineate the wetland to proceed, I wanted to get a written
: response from the city in regards to what I need to do to gain a permit. Once I delineate the wetlands what are
"` the next steps that I need to take?The wetland, once delineated will need to be approved by the watershed
district. Do I have to also do a survey of the house, swimming pool,patios etc to get a permit? Yes. Most
';; projects require a survey. The Council understands your issue. In May of this year,the Council
`` amended the survey requirements, listing a number of conditions,that, if inet,would exempt the
°: requirement of a certified survey. (a plan would still be needed). If a project:
Has an as built survey (we don't have),
is outside the Shoreland Overlay district(it is),
;
is not subject to the Stormwater Quality Overlay district(it isn't),
i
is greater than 2 acres (it is),
 exceeds the required setbacks by 150% (it does,partially),
and the project does not exceed 200 square feet in size(it does) A certified survey is not required.
`` Since these standards are not satisfied,the survey is required. I need to know all of this in order to make a
" decision to see I will invest further in this project. For the deck you propose,we require a survey. The
; information on the survey must show any wetlands. The survey we do have,from 1998,is
F attached. Perhaps this will help with the costs. Specific questions I need answers to are as follow:

E
' Besides a survey to delineate the wetlands, what other surveys do I need to do for the city or wetland
; commission to provide a deck building permit? Is it just the house? Or does it need to include the pool and any
`';.„ patios around the pool?Does it need to include the driveway on my house? The survey requirements are
 listed on the attached sheet. It does need to include the house,the septic locations,the driveways,
; etc. Part of what we check is the amount of hard cover on the property.
3
' What are the setbacks from wetland areas as far as building the deck? How far from the wetland can the deck
i be built? The deck must be at least 35 feet from the delineated edge of the wetland.
2
