Wetland Delineation Report
Stonegate Farm,Orono& Medina, MN
BES Project No. 2015-021
September 18,2015
basin. The water table (A2) and saturated soil (A3)were observed at 0 inches in the wetland
soil pit. The other wetland hydrology indicator obsenred in the wetland included inundation
saturation visible on aerial imagery(C9), saturation visible on aerial imagery(C9), geomorphic
position (D2)and a positive FAC-neutral test(D5). The adjacent upland vegetation was
sampled on a slight topographic rise on the east side of the basin. The uplands around the
other half of basin have been disturbed by farm operations. The upland (SB-U) is dominated by
basswood (Tilia americana), sugar maple (Acer saccharum), white oak(Quercus a/ba), common
buckthorn (Rhamnus cathartica), gooseberry current(Ribes cynosbat) and nannyberry
(Viburnum lentago)with no herbaceous layer. The vegetation community did not meet the
dominance test and had a prevalence index of 3.92. The upland soils consisted of nine inches
of 10YR 2/1 loam over 10YR 4/2 clay loam. Free water and saturated soil was not observed
within a depth of 16 inches in the upland soil. No other wetland hydrology indicators were
observed at the upland sampling point. The wetland boundary was generally staked along the
vegetation transition and topographic break.
Wetlands D and E
These two wetlands are smatl depressions in the woods along the northeast edge of the site.
These wetlands have a closed overstory canopy which limits the emergent vegetation in the
basin. Wetland C,just to the south is larger and has an open canopy with cattails and reed
canary grass in the basin. Wetlands D and E are Palustrine, Broad-Leaved, Forested, Seasonal
flooded, (PF01C) hardwood swamps. Sample point SD-W is dominated by silver maple (Acer
saccharinum), green ash (Fraxinus pennsylanica), common buckthorn, reed canary grass lake
sedge (Carex/acustris) and jewelweed (Impatiens capensis). The vegetation community met
the dominance test and had a prevalence index of 1.90. Soils in the wetland consisted of five
inches of N 2/0 clay loam, over 15 inches of N 2/0 clay, over 10YR 4/1 clay(Al2). Surface
water up to eight inches deep was present in the basin at the time of the site visit. The water
table (A2)was at seven inches and saturated soil (A3)was observed within a depth of three
inches in the wetland soil pit. The other wetland hydrology indicator observed in the wetland
included; inundation visible on aerial imagery(B7), geomorphic position (D2) and a positive
FAC-neutral test(D5). The adjacent upland (SD-U) is dominated by sugar maple, common
buckthorn, nannyberry, white snakeroot(Ageratina a/tissima), Virginia creeper(Parthenocissus
quinquefolia),jack-in-the-pulpit(Arisaema triphyllum), fragrant bedstraw(Galium triflorum) and
northern wood violet(Vio/a papilionacea). The vegetation community did not meet the
dominance test and had a prevalence index of 3.74. The upland soils consisted of 8 inches of N
2/0 clay loam, over ten inches of 10YR 3/1 clay, over 10YR 4/1 clay. The water table was
observed at 14 inches and saturated soil (A3)was at a depth of 12 inches in the upland soil pit.
No other wetland hydrology indicators including the FAC-neutral test were observed at the
upland sampling point. The wetland boundary was generally staked along the vegetation
transition and topographic break.
4
