Gity of Qrono
2750 KeEEy Parkway
P:O. Box66
Crystat Bay, Ntinn. 55323
i.e. consideratior of sewer conecton fa properties of t090 Brow Rcf. Nort a►d
2085 Conty Road Six , Orono, lvin.
Dear ity Offfcials,
tvty septic systert requires repEacement. f have signed a contract to have a new
system built and woufd have afready dorte sa except that the area is to water saturated
to eter irto costreton. ! have recentky heard ttiat a plan to exterd the city sewer
system north on brown road and inta the Country CEub area and Dakota Ave.
I am requestEng to Fave bath af tie above named propertEes to be inciuded ir
fhis projecf for the reasons listed :
1. Vlher S & P Testing walked my properties to searcifor a septic site, ey
found one ste onfy o my 2.8 acres that wold bafely meet eode. Same porons of
this site do not meet the rec}uirement of !2 trtches of good soil below the septic. E was
told that afl the rest of my land has water rghi near the surtace othat because o
heavy truck traffic when my property was a free farm, thathe soi! is 'much to
eompacted'to pEace a septic over it. ttVith this as a startng poin, it is a given tEzat this
mound system is doomed taaif. f was tvlc# a range o 8 to 15 years. Wfen this new
systern fairs, anotter site for a new system does not extst.
2. Tte site fourtd to be acceptable exists in the middf of very dense, beautiful
tree growth. Because this was arr ok# tree farm, many old, catt arborvtae, pine, and
birch trees exist here. There are► 100 or rnore trees that woutd need to be eEeared
arrd hauled off teaving a large void amongst the other trees. Besides the angish of
loosing so rnany otd trees, there is the great additional eost of cutting ard removig
these trees. They would neecf to be cut ar►d chain ciragged out of the site because the
aea cannot be driven or or the soit wouEd be compacted makEng the site warthtess. {
cannof have any of the tress moved Eo a new site for the same reason. The only optiort
is to destroy natures beautifuf growth. Because of the size of these trees and tFe
dense nature o there growth, There remova! adds thousands to the cast of the new
system.
3. The Eot next to brown road had Qnty one site iound to meet t►e criteria for a
mound systerr aEso. 7he problerrt with this site is that i Fs dErectly aver the Qnly
suitabfe bui[ding sfte for a house. This matces tEe new lot essentiaffy worthiess unEess
it had access to city sewer.
4. The cost of this septie system has grovr o be betweert $13,00 to $16{10Q
depeRdirzg on the finaE tree remova! biff. To spencE this amount of money on a proec
that adds zero vafue to my house is unfortunate, especially wEtk he krrowtedge that at
some point whi(e I am livig here fhaf E wit! be requtred to spend even more to ooEc c
to city sewer. Because of the circurnstances, Et seerris prudent and wise to become
part of the ct}r sewer now and not have to pay double jeopardy. The tirtFng s perect if
not one year to Iate.
f hope this adequately describes my dikerrma. My poperties are avaifabte for a
