You have expressed concern with a certain product that your Stucco
Contractor is using to fill the void between the windows and the stucco. Last week I
inspected the work being done and was shown the product in question. I was shown a 25
year acrylic exterior caulk from Dap. It was not the caulk from Brock-White that the
Stucco Contractor stated he would use when all of us met onsite two weeks ago. When I
mentioned this I was told that the product from Brock-White would be used in front
"where it shows". I cannot require that the Brock-White caulk be used. It was though,
what I understood would be used.
As to your other concern about the caulking job that it was covered over before it had a
chance to set up and is now leaking out from under and around the windows is a concern.
But, this in an application problem and not a fault of the product itself. If the
manufacturers instructions were not followed then the warranty would be void. If that is
the case then I would expect to see that caulk removed and re-done according to the specs
of the product. If the Brock-White product is what you want used then I would assume
that the two of you can come to some understanding.
As I mentioned before, at the time of the building final inspection I will be looking at the
exterior of the building to try to verify a weather tight envelope. It does not matter to the
City how that was accomplished. Please feel free to call with any questions you may
have.
Telephone(952)249-4600 • Fax(952)249-4616
www.ci.orono.mn.us
