Box 66
-- " Orono, MN 55356 Crystal Bay, MN 55323-0066
Ilarch 13, 2003
Dear Nei jhborhood Residents;
The City of Orono has selected a directional boring contractor to complete the pressure sewer
installation project in the North Lon Lake East neighborhood. This project consists of
directional boring a pressure sewer line north of the existing houses, and the proision of a
service stub for each house. Directional boring of the sewer should result in minimal disturbance
to your property. The only excavations required will be at the service stub, and flushing
connection stations. These locations are circled on the attached plans. There mati-also be minimal
disturbance in the areas whcre the contractor sets up the directional boring machine. All
disturbed areas will be restored as part of this project. The project schedule is to have the sewer
installed by June 1 st.
Connection to the sewer is not required, but the systemvill be available for future hookup upon
payment of a connection fee. The current connection fee is $11,000 per unit. This connection fee
is updated each year to account for inflationary increases. In addition to the City connection fee,
there is also a Service Availability Charge (SAC) fee that is collected by the City then remitted to
the Metropolitan Council Environmental Services. This fee covers the capital costs for additional
sever capacity that is included in the metropolitan interceptor sewers andvastez-ater treatment
plants for future sewer connections. This is a pressure sewer system, and each property ovner is
required to install, operate, and maintain their ovn private residential grinder pump station.
The City will need to acquire a 20-:oot`ide permanent se-er easement acros your property for
the installation and future maintenance of the sewer. We would like to obtain a "Right of Entry"
to allov access on your property to complete the project construction. After the se«er is
installed, the exact pipe locationzll be surveyed and a legal description developed for an
easement document.
Telephone(952)249-4600 • Fax(952)249-4616
www.ci.orono.mn.us
