Agenda Section: Chairman's Report <br />Dir, Public Works/City Engineer <br />1. Purpose. The purpose of this item is provide the Commission an update on the status of the park, <br />discuss a grand opening and review a proposal for a bench. <br />2. Background. In 2015 the Lurton family approached the City about improving visitorship to Lurton <br />Park by transitioning it to an Off Leash Park. Throughout the spring and summer of 2016 the Park <br />Commission and Staff developed a plan for the transition. In the fall of 2016 the Council approved the <br />plan, construction of the park, the relevant ordinance changes and adopted rules for the park. <br />Construction of the parking lot expansion and fencing began in the fall of 2016. <br />3. Status. Grand opening. While we did a "soft opening of the park as soon as the fence was completed, the <br />new park should have a grand opening to celebrate the newest amenity the City has to offer and to <br />recognize those who made it possible. The Park Commission should identified a date and develop a plan <br />for the opening. <br />5. Bench. Commissioner Bryce Johnson has proposed a possible special bench for consideration for <br />inclusion in Lurton Park. A description and photo of the bench is at Exhibit B. <br />COMAUSION ACTION REQUESTED <br />a.
