Agenda Section: Chairman's Report <br />Dir, Public Works/City Engineer <br />1. Purpose. The purpose of this item is for the Commission to review and recommend council action <br />on the Saga Hills Improvement Project. <br />2. Background. The Park Commission identified Saga Hills as a focus park for 2016 and 2017. After <br />engagements with the local residents and historical research the Saga Hills subcommittee recommended a <br />set of improvements for the park. The improvements were reviewed and discussed at the February Park <br />Commission Work Session. <br />3. Scope of Work. The scope of work for the improvement project includes clearing trees from & <br />planting the hilltop area with native grasses; clearing the trail pathways & around parking lot; installing <br />trail & information signs; and installing trail gates. See Exhibit A for draft plans. <br />4, Cost. The estimated cost for the project is $59,000 with 9 acres of hill top clearing or $38,000 with <br />4.5 acres of hill top clearing. <br />5. Funding. The project could be funded entirely from the Park Fund. Alternatively if done <br />sequentially the smallest items (signs, trail clearing and gates) could be funded from the Parks Operations <br />and :Maintenance (O&M) budget with the remaining portions coming from the Park Fund. <br />6. Information Signs. The draft information & historical sign layouts are provided for review and <br />approval. If approved the signs will be ordered and installed. <br />7. Way Forward.
