Determine the nature and extent of park and trail facilities necessary to <br />support and enhance the Dakota Rail Regional Trail and its future <br />connections to Navane as well as to the potential future trail along CR 19 <br />connecting with the Lake Minnetonka LRT Regional Trail. <br />Ensure all new bridges constructed as part of the new Highway 12 <br />project have sufficient trails/sidewalks such that all existing <br />transportation and recreational uses including walking and biking (and <br />horse riding on the Luce Line Trail) are maintained. <br />8. Coordinate with the City of Long Lake, and work with Mn/DOT and <br />other agencies regarding a trail and park along the south side of the new <br />Highway 12 corridor. <br />9. Continue to monitor whether the City has any long-term needs for <br />playfields to meet the needs of organized youth sports activities and if <br />such needs are identified, coordinate the eventual provision and cost- <br />sharing for these facilities with the appropriate public agencies and <br />private organizations. <br />10. Preserve and retain all existing public access lanes to Lake Minnetonka <br />as detailed in the Transportation element of the CMP. <br />11. Develop plans for and implement a north -south trail along Willow Drive <br />connecting the Dakota Rail Trail Corridor with the Luce Line Trail, <br />Hackbeny Park, and Long Lake's Holbrook Park and trail system. <br />12. Complete and implement the City's Big Island Nature Park Management <br />Plan and establish the necessary operating budgets and capital <br />improvement plan to ensure the long-term viability of City stewardship <br />of this unique resource. <br />13. Upon completion of the MnDOT Highway 12 Bypass project, in <br />consultation with the park donor, develop and implement a plan to make <br />Lurton Park accessible to the public while maintaining its intent as a <br />passive, natural environmental park with improvements limited to a <br />picnic area, hiking trails and a parking lot. <br />City of Orono Community Management Plan 2008-2030 Page 4E-39 <br />
