Saturday, August 2, 2014 <br />Orono Park Maintenanoe Standards <br />There are many'types of parks in Orono. Some are active (Antoine, Boderwood, Crystal <br />Bay, Haokberry, and Navarre), some passive (Livingston Tower, Highwood, Seven Nations, <br />Chevy Chase, F=rench Creek Preserve, Saga Hill, and Lurton), and some natural (Cygnet, <br />Casco Point, Lowry Woods, and Pleasant View). <br />Active parks should be mowed once a week, Atter should be picked up weekly, as well as <br />branches that may have fallen due to wind or storms, <br />Trees and shrubbery should be trimmed as necessary to maintain health and promote proper <br />grass growth, <br />Playground equipment should be checked at least twice a season for cleanliness and upkeep. <br />Wood chips and stones in play areas should be kept free of weeds and debris, and should be <br />swept off adjoining sidewalk areas. <br />Woad control should be applied to all grassy areas as needed. <br />Baseball diamonds should be kept weed free and graded as necessary. <br />Every active park should have garbage cans, as well as pionio tables, benches, and bike racks. <br />Garbage cans must be emptied on a weekly basis, <br />Parking areas should be weed free and properly graded. <br />All parks should have uniform signage regarding park rules and regulations and the hours of <br />use. <br />Passive parks, such as Saga HAI, Highwood, and French Creek Preserve, have required <br />minimal degrees of upkeep, due to limited use patterns. Trees should be maintained and grass <br />should be mowed and litter removed as needed. <br />Livingston Tower and Chevy Chase are small pocket parks requiring regular dawn mowing and <br />upkeep. <br />Lurton Park, and Seven Nations should have their trails and picnic areas mowed and kept dean <br />on a weekly basis to encourage more use. <br />The natural areas, Cygnet, Casco Point, Lowry Woods, and Pleasant View, require no regularly <br />scheduled maintenance. <br />Park Commissioners will check their designated parks monthly, and notify the park Chair who <br />will then notify the Public Works Director to remedy any problems found. <br />
