The City will promote improved mass transportation services for urban neighborhoods, <br /> including park and rides. Orono encourages improved bus scheduling and improved <br /> service, especially at off-peak hours. <br /> Rural Transportation Policies <br /> 1. Public streets in the rural area will be primarily limited to the existing collector and arterial <br /> grid system. <br /> 2. The Ring Route concept utilizes as much as possible the existing rural highway system. <br /> 3. The City of Orono will encourage all necessary road system improvements required to <br /> accommodate and to facilitate through traffic on the Ring Route. <br /> 4. Rural residential developments will utilize private road feeders to supplement the existing <br /> public road grid. <br /> 5. Private rural roadways will be constructed to rural design standards. <br /> 6. The City will guarantee reasonable maintenance levels and public access on all private roads. <br /> 7. Driveway locations and rural street or private road intersections will be limited for traffic <br /> safety. <br /> 8. Rural trails are an integral part of the total alternate transportation system. <br /> 9.
