MINUTES OF THE
ORONO PLANNING COMMISSION MEETING
Monday,March 16,2015
6:30 o'clock p.m.
Stickney stated it sounds like there will be a public trail along County Road 6 but that the trails in this
development would be private and not advertised.
Schwingler asked if the tennis court will be part of the homeowner's association.
Stickney indicated it will be. Stickney stated in his view the route of the road is good since currently
there are a lot of dead trees in its path. Stickney indicated they may change the pathway a little bit as they
go through it and that they will be identifying the trees in a couple of weeks.
Schwingler asked where the current driveway is proposed.
Stickney pointed out the location of the proposed driveway. Stickney stated the current driveway goes
right down the middle of the development and that they are planning to cut through an area where there
are few or no trees. Stickney stated the reason for the center island is to provide a better visual for the
property owner.
McGrann asked if he has thoughts about coming in off of Hunter for Lot 9.
Stickney stated he has a 30-foot corridor and that he will verify it with surveying. Stickney stated the idea
of the corridor is to meander the driveway.
Lemke asked if it will be gated access to the main road.
Stickney indicated it will not be.
Berg asked if signage will be erected denoting it as a conservation area.
Stickney stated he does have some preservation signs that will be erected. Stickney stated the prairie will
continue into the individual lots and will be signed. Stickney stated when the prairie is burned, the signs
will be removed and then put back.
Berg stated the reason she asked is if the public sees those signs, they may want to walk through it.
Stickney stated they should not see the signs from the trail or road. Stickney stated the property is due for
a bum and that he will see whether Wendy Dayton is comfortable with doing that. Stickney noted there
will be no debt against the development and it will be paid for by this fall.
Schwingler asked if the number of builders will be restricted.
Stickney stated they would like more than one builder but that they will be looking at every plan to make
sure the style of homes are different and meet the covenants. Stickney indicated those covenants should
be finalized by the time of preliminary plat.
Chair Leskinen opened the public hearing at 8:47 p.m.
Liz Weir, Medina, stated her interest in this development is purely from an environmental standard but
that they live two houses to the north of the Dayton property. Weir stated these are specialized woods
where hawks nest, great horned owls nest and other birds next. Currently there are 15 acres of unopened
Page 24 of 30
