Please have the engineer review if
necessary. Note that once the tiebacks are advanced thru the organics and soft soils,we are showing a 10 kip working
capacity with a 40'total length.
Contact Mike or I with any questions.
Thanks,
Brian Sanchez, P.E.
Project Manager-Engineer
Atlas Foundation Company Direct:763-447-4230
From: Laurel Ulland [mailto:Laurel@laurelulland.com]
Sent:Thursday,July 13, 2017 11:39 AM
To: Brian Sanchez<brian.sanchez@atlasfoundation.com>; Mike Moeller<mike.moeller@atlasfoundation.com>
Cc: Bryan Meyer(bryanmeverarchitect@gmail.com) <bryanmeyerarchitect@mail.com>; gsmeichels@hotmail.com;
David C.Johnson<DJohnson@vaaeng.com>
Subject: RE: Martha Head Lake Residence
Hi Brian and Mike,
I thought I would check in again about the Martha Head Lake Residence.
The surveyor has staked out the new guest house and pier locations, so we are ready for the helical pier installation,
once the details are confirmed:
• We have determined that the piers will extend to the main floor LVL beams and will be connected with a pier
cap or plate and a steel sleeve.
• A saddle will be used to bolt the LVL's and connect them to the plate. The contractor would like to connect the
saddle in the field to a 9" x 9" x%z" plate that is welded to the sleeve.
• Lateral resistance will be achieved through the installation of battered helical piers at select locations. We still
need to determine where the battered piers will be placed and quantity required. We continue to include our
structural engineer's lateral bracing detail in the construction set, pending a final review of the battered pier
installation.
We have revised the pier plan to accommodate a change in size to a bifold door system that will be installed on the main
level of the house. See attached. The number of piers has not changed but the location of(2) piers has changed for a
larger framed opening above.Total number of piers is 47.
We are available to meet on the job site to review the installation details and access to the site. Let me know when you
are available.
Thanks,
Laurel
2
