topsoil underlain by sandy lean clay glacial till soiLs to the termination depth of the
borings.
Penetration resistance values(N-Values),shown as blows per foot(bpon the boring logs,
within the silty sand soils ranged from 11 to 21 bpf and within the sandy lean clay soiLs
ranged from 5 to 17 bpf. The N-Values indicate the soils are generally in a medium dense
density of inedium to stiff consistency with some upper soft zones.
3.2 Groundwater
Groundwater was not encountered in borings while drilling or to cave-in depths of 11 to
13 feet after removing the auger from the boreholes. However, given the cohesive naiure
of portions of the soils, it is possible that insufficient time was available tor perched
groundwater to seep into the borings and rise to its hydrostatic level.
Groundwater measurements were made as noted and shown on the boring logs.
Groundwater monitoring wells or piezometers would be required to more accurately
determine water leveLs. Seasonal and annual fluctuations in the groundwater levels
should be expected.
3.3 Laboratory Tests
Laboratory moisture content tests were performed on selected samples recovered from the
soil borings. Table 1 below summarizes the results of the laboratory tests. Results of the
laboratory moisture content tests are shown on the boring logs adjacent to the sample
tested.
Table 1. The
soils identified in the borings will generally be Type B soils under Deparmnent of Labor
Occupational Safety and Health Administration(OSHA)guidelines.
3
