1.0 INTRODUCTION
1.1 Project Description
Mr.Alex Ugorets is proposing to reconstruct the car parking lot at 2500 Shadywood Road
in Orono, MN. Development plans include removing the existing pavements and
constructing a new car parking lot with the associated concrete curbing, underground
storm sewer pipes and possibly a storm water infiltration basin.
Mr. Alex Ugorets retained Haugo GeoTechnical Services to perforrn a geotechnical
exploration to evaluate the suitability of site soil and groundwater conditions to support
the proposed parking lot and possible infiltration basin.
1.2 Purpose
The purpose of this geotechnical exploration was to characterize subsurface soil and
groundwater conditions and provide recommendations for site development.
1.3 Site Descriptions
The project site is located in the easting car parking lot south of the existing building at
2500 Shadywood Road and north of Shadywood Road in Orono, MN. The existing
parking lot is paved and generally slopes from west to east with ground surface elevations
at our soil boring locations ranging from about 951 1/z feet to 9631/s feet mean sea level
(MSL)•
1.4 Scope of Services
Our services were performed in accordance with our proposal dated Apri17, 2016 and
under the Haugo GeoTechnical Services general conditions. Our scope of services was
limited to the following tasks:
• Completing four(4)standard petration fiest borings to nominal depths of 21 feet.
• Visually/manually classify samples recovered from the soil borings.
• Performixtg laboratory tests on selected samples.
Preparing soil boring logs describing the materials encountered and the resulLs of
groundwater level measurements.
• Preparing an engineering report describing soil and groundwater conditions and
providing recommendations regarding site development
1.5 Documents Provided
We were provided with a certificate of survey dated November 4, 2015 prepared by
Gronberg and Associates. The certificate of survey shows the proposed soil boring
locations and the locations of the existing car parking lot, building, roadways and surface
topography contours.
1
