Wiliiam 1. Sime,1 r.
2106 Shadywood Rd.
Wayzata, MN 55391
July 1, 2008
Mayor James White
City of Orono
P.O. Box 86
Crystal Bay, MN 55356
Dear Mayor White:
We have not had a surface water drainage problem since 1910 when the
original home at 2118 Shadywood Rd. was built and there was never any
problem since my home was built in 1955. The construction of the home to the
South of 2118 Shadywood Rd. in 2002, caused storm water to pond in the yard
at 2118 when the normal surface drainage was blocked by regrading the yard.
The new home being built at 2118 Shadywood Rd. has raised the elevation of
the yard by dumping fill as much as 5 feet high which would effectively create a
dam preventing the normal natural drainage of surface water from my home at
2106 Shadywood Rd. The City of Orono has a grading plan which can allow
drainage on the South side of 2118 through an easement into Lake Minnetonka.
The plan also to allows water to flow on the surface from 2106 Shadywood Rd.
to County Road 19. This would restore the natural flow of storm water that
worked perfectly for 92 years until the home South of 2118 was built in 2002.
The City of Orono off'icials have included an unsightly culvert which, given the
natural flow of water already planned, is redundant. The Orono City engineer
originally was concerned that the culvert could be blocked.A proposed grate on
the culvert woutd increase the danger of blockage. I have requested a copy of
the grading plan, but Mr. Ohman and Mr. Kellogg have not furnished it yet.
I respectfully request the City remove this culvert which is a potential problem.
Sincerely,
William Sime
