Phone call from SGT Brad Erickson #1706 at Hennepin Sheriffs Water Patrol. SGT Erickson requested I stop by their office and speak with the reporting party (RP) David Albertson. I arrived and met with Albertson who said he has lived in the area for years and has always used city property (an alley just south of 1998 Shadywood Road), to go through the area as he is snowmobiling. RP said years ago the city had the alley posted as a Fire Lane. RP told me the owner at 1998 Shadywood had a variance issued so the house there could be built three feet onto the alley. RP said over the years someone has removed the gravel from the alley and planted grass. The area is also no longer posted as a Fire Lane. He has still used the alley up until this year for snowmobiling with no problems. RP gave me a copy of a city map he said he obtained from the city of Orono last week. The map shows that there is an alley that runs between two residences just south of 1998 Shadywood Road. The RP marked the on the map that the alley is a Fire Lane however the original map only shows the area is an alley that is city property. RP said this year the resident at 1998 Shadywood Road has been causing problems for him when he tries to use the alley. The resident there has had a camper parked blocking the alley. When RP put his fire lane flier (see attached map), on the camper the RP said the resident came out and screamed at him. The camper was moved however. RP said his brother tried to drive through on his sled when the resident came out of his house and threw a 2 X 4 piece of wood in the way. RP said his brother drove over it and continued on his way. R.P said resident now has put up a No Snowmobiles Allowed Sign up by the alley, has strung rope up between the two residences that border the alley and parked a snowmobile in the alley to block access along with two sawhorses. RP wants to know if he can use this alley to sled through and if we can unblock the alley.
